“Red Dead Redemption 2 Star Rob Wiethoff Hilariously Walks Back Game Tease: ‘I Don’t Announce Things for Rockstar… But I Might Have News Soon’”

Red Dead Redemption fans, saddle up — but maybe don’t gallop just yet.

Rob Wiethoff — the voice behind the legendary outlaw John Marston — recently got fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 and the franchise in general all hot under the cowboy hat when he teased an announcement that had people dreaming of next-gen updates, Switch 2 ports, and maybe even a surprise RDR 3.

During a livestream of the original Red Dead Redemption last week, Wiethoff had casually mentioned that he was “super excited” about something related to the game. This, combined with other juicy rumors (like a possible next-gen update for RDR 2), sent the internet into full speculation mode. And to spice things up even further, Roger Clark — Arthur Morgan himself — chimed in to support the tease. The hype train left the station at full speed.

But in the wild west of gaming announcements, it seems the brakes have now been applied — gently, with a wink.

In a recent YouTube gym buddy livestream (yes, you read that right — Marston’s voice actor apparently lifts weights on YouTube), Wiethoff addressed the growing frenzy:

“There’s one more thing I wanna say,” he began, perhaps sensing the tumbleweeds of disappointment starting to roll in. “I do have something I’m really excited about. I truly am. And I think you will be too… But I possibly misled some people when I said I have something to announce that I can’t talk about right now.”

He then clarified the root of the misunderstanding: “Just please recognise — and I know you know this — but let me remind you: I do not make announcements for Rockstar Games. Rockstar makes announcements for Rockstar. They don’t use me for that.”

Translation: don’t expect a surprise Red Dead drop just because Marston’s voice is doing push-ups on YouTube.

That being said, Wiethoff maintained he does still have some exciting news — just not Rockstar-official news. “I still think a lot of you will be really excited about this news… but I can’t share it yet. I’m so sorry,” he added. “But I truly am excited.”

Naturally, internet sleuths started digging for clues. Some fans quickly connected the dots to a scheduled main cast reunion for Red Dead Redemption 2 actors at the National Gaming Expo in Tampa, Florida this August (8th-10th). While that sounds cool, the event was announced weeks ago — not quite matching the timeline of Rob’s mysterious teaser.

And it seems the real reveal has hit a slight delay. Wiethoff originally suggested the big news would drop by June 20th. When fans asked about the hold-up the following day (June 21st), Rob replied in classic charming cowboy fashion:

“It’s coming. Sorry for the delay. Ha! There are a lot of moving parts. We want to get this right. I think it’ll be clear why once we’re able to say what’s going on. I can assure you, I want to tell you as soon as possible. Ha! I love it. Let’s goooooooo!”

So, what’s coming? New Red Dead content? A next-gen update? A fancy new port? A gym vlog starring John Marston?

For now, partner, all we can do is sit tight and wait — and maybe rewatch that gym livestream in the meantime.
